PAUL TORVICK
Date de naissance : 27 novembre 1930
Lieu de décès : Colombie Britannique, Canada
Date de décès : 26 mars 2012
It is with deep sorrow that the Torvicks wish to announce the passing of their father and life partner, Paul. Left behind to mourn are Lisa, Kevin (Michelle), Pamela, Jessica (Rod) and Paul's wife and life-long companion, Eugenia.
Born in Denver, Colo., Paul moved to Seattle in his early teens where he joined the Seattle Youth Orchestra on French Horn. Upon graduation he entered the Univ. of Wash. where he studied art and drafting. The next year he was accepted by the Juilliard School of Music in New York City from which he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance, and where he met Genie. The following year Paul earned a Master of Arts Degree from Teachers College, Columbia Univ.
His playing career took him to orchestras in Buffalo, NY, New Orleans, Denver, Colo., and finally to the Vancouver Symph. Orch. where Genie was an oboist. Upon his retirement the family relocated to Roberts Creek. There Paul joined the Suncoast Concert Band and the Coast Symph. Orch. In addition to music Paul enjoyed art and has had paintings shown in Buffalo and Seattle. He also designed, drafted the plans for, and helped build the four houses which have been home to the Torvick family.
We wish to thank Dr. John Hourigan for all his efforts with Dad and his extra attention to the family; also the staff at Christenson Village, especially during Dad's last days and hours as they outdid themselves ensuring his comfort.
Please join us for a Celebration of Paul's life on Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m. at St. Bartholomew's Church, Gibsons B.C.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Can. Diabetes Assoc. or the Sunshine Coast Community Orchestra Assoc. Those wishing to share a memory of Paul may direct email to: halthehat@hotmail.com
After defying all odds and cheating death countless times, Paul went quickly and quietly in his sleep just before dawn with family at his side. Rest in peace, Pops. Devlin Funeral Home, 579 Seaview, Gibsons
