It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Morah Woodrow in the Dartmouth General Hospital on April 18, 2012.
Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, mom was the daughter of the late Neil and Sarah (Johnson) Matheson.
Mom was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s United Church in Sydney, where she taught Sunday school and was an active leader in CGIT.
Through the years, mom became well known for her skills in knitting, rug hooking and her beautiful quilts prized by all. Although initially trained as a stenographer in Sydney, mom devoted her life to raising her children and providing care for numerous friends and family members.
Mom will be greatly missed by her daughters, Mary, Nebraska, Sarah, Greenwood, Maureen (Mike); sons, Patrick Myles (Veronica), James (Brenda), all of Dartmouth, John, (Melanie) Alabama and Michael (Tanya), Oromocto, N.B.; sister, Marcie (Frank) Rogers, Yarmouth, N.S. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, James Andrew, a grandson, James Andrew in infancy, eight brothers and one sister.
Visitation will take place Friday, April 20, 2012, from 1-3 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 21 at 1:30 p.m. at A.L. Mattatall’s Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth, officiated by Pastors Jay and Sharon Guptill. Interment will be Monday April 23 at 2 p.m. in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Milne and the staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital for their wonderful care and support of our mom. Special thanks to Dr. Duke for his compassion and kindness to mom and our family throughout her illness.
