HOISINGTON: George Leslie Hoisington, age 87 years, of Simmie, SK passed away December 6, 2009 at the Shaunavon Care Home, Shaunavon, SK. The Funeral Service was held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, December 10, 2009 from the First United Church, Swift Current, SK. with Pastoral Assistance Christine Ciona officiating. The eulogy was presented by the daughter Heather Chaney and the pianist was Joan Williamson. The ushers were Ross Horning and Barry Peterson and the pallbearers were Craig Hoisington, Brian Pearl, Andrew Gardner, Brent Vickers, Dar Davidson and Everett Peterson. An Honor Guard was formed by members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 56, and the Legion Last Rites were observed. The Interment Service followed at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. George is survived by sons: Dennis (Myrna), Calvin (Cheryl) and a daughter Heather Chaney; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; brothers: Charlie, Bob and Lorne Hoisington and sisters Gladys Bonin and Verla Bubon. He was predeceased by his parents George and Beatrice Hoisington; his wife Catherine Hoisington; a son Brian Hoisington; brothers Howard, Dillon and Reuben and a sister May Hahaulak. George was born in Gull Lake, SK. April 29, 1922. He attended school at the Ceader View rural school. George was united in marriage to Catherine McPhate, April 18, 1945 in Scotland. George worked for various local farmers until enlisting in the Army (1942-1945). He worked with road construction (Fox, Ramsey & Berg) and then started farming in 1947 in the Simmie district. He retired and moved to Swift Current in 1997. George served as a councilor for the Bone Creek R.M. for 10 years and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion until his passing. His special interests included breaking horses, fishing, hunting and coaching hockey in Simmie. He was a family man and his wife, children, grandchildren and friends meant the world to him. George will be missed and fondly remembered by his children and grandchildren. In his memory a memorial donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Saskatchewan Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated by the family.
