Marion Gilliss
GILLISS, MARION E. R.N. - 1935 - 2012 - Miramichi - Marion Eleanor Gilliss, R.N., widow of the late Ralph M. Gilliss, of the North Napan Road, Napan, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Sunday evening, April 20, 2012, surrounded by her family, at the age of 76. Born in Chatham, on December 5, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Francis (Frank) and Evelyn (Cahoun) Sweezey. She was a homemaker and a retired R.N., by profession, graduating from the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing, in Chatham, where she was class valedictorian. After graduation, she was employed for a short time in hospitals in Toronto, Ont. and then worked at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, in Chatham, until her retirement, in 1986. She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Ann O'Reilley (Michael) and Evelyn Gilliss (Robert Bruce), all of Miramichi; two sons, Paul Gilliss (Norma), of Napan Bay and David Gilliss (Karen), of North Napan Road; two brothers, Kenneth Sweezey, of Napan Bay and Jack Sweezey (Faye), of Fredericton; six grandchildren, Sarah, Nathan, Brendan, Emily, Sophie, Grace, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, in 2005; one brother Frank Sweezey, and his wife, Evelyn (Russell) Sweezey.
Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., on Wednesday, from 7 to 9 pm and Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Michaels Basilica, on Friday, April 27, 2012, at 11 am, conducted by Father John Fraser. Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery. Vigil prayers will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening, at 6:50 pm. Please note, members of the Miramichi Senior and Retired Nurses are asked to assemble at St. Michaels Basilica on Friday morning, at 10:30 am, to form a guard of honor, following the Mass. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the N.B. Lung Assoc., or any charity of the donors' choice, would be appreciated by the family.
