DUMONT, LUCILLE MARIE
(NEE FERLAND)
Lucille passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2012, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 76. She was predeceased by her husband Roland; parents Oscar and Clara; brothers Ernest, Andre and Henri; twin sisters Josephine and Marie at birth; 2 brothers in law and 2 sisters in law. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Jeanne (Ken), Lou (Ali), Rolande (Mike), Marianne, Noella, and Janine; grandchildren: Les, Ron, Tonya, Shawn, Jennifer, Steven and Renee; sister Marie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Lucille was born on April 26, 1935 in Ponteix, SK. When she was 11 years old , her mom passed away due to complications giving birth to her twin sisters (who also did not survive). She was in Grade 6 at this time but she stopped going to school so she could take over for her mom, working on the farm and tending to the household duties. She was very musically inclined and played the piano, organ, accordion and harmonica, all by ear and she could yodel. Lucille was a very hard working woman. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide in the Ponteix Hospital and then at the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing home for several years after that, all the while helping her husband on the farm and raising their 6 children. In 1984, she started a private home care in her own home and continued this until 1998. To further provide for her family, she always grew a huge garden and canned all types of fruits and vegetables. She loved to cook and bake, always making sure there was enough food so that everyone who came to her home was well-fed. Lucille’s family meant the world to her. She would do anything for them, even if it meant she would have to go without. She always looked forward to family gatherings where she was able to entertain and treat everyone like royalty. Lucille enjoyed listening to old time and gospel music, embroidering, crocheting, doing ceramics, gardening, and dancing. She taught her children and some of her grandchildren to dance the two-step and polka. She had a heart of gold and would do anything to help anyone. She even organized an Alcohol Anonymous Group in Ponteix in 1975 to help families deal with issues relating to this illness. Lucille was a great mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by everyone whose life she touched in one way or another. Special thanks to the William Booth staff for their kind and compassionate care during her 5 ½ years residency there. A very special thanks to the staff in the Emergency department and on Unit 4A of the Pasqua Hospital for their very kind and compassionate care of mom before her passing. A Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Holy Cross Parish, 315 Douglas Ave. E., Regina, SK, with Fr. Thomas Nguyen as Celebrant. Private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucille’s memory may be made to the Regina Humane Society Inc., P.O. Box 3143, Regina, SK, S4P 3G7.
