Margaret Hatcher
It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret (Peggy) Hatcher age 89, of Amherst announce her passing on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Gables Lodge, Amherst, NS.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Hector and Ellen (Purchase) Lewis.
In her younger years she worked at the News Office in Amherst and later at Douglas Hardware and Robb Engineering.
After her marriage to Ted she moved to Toronto where she was employed for a number of years as a bookkeeper at Eagle Electric. Following her retirement she and Ted moved back to settle in Amherst.
Her church played a very important part in her life. Peggy was a member of the Anglican Christ Church where she was very active in St. Martha's Guild and the ACW. She was also the former treasurer of the church, member of the church council and played a very active role on the visitation committee. Peggy enjoyed her many years of teaching Sunday School and spending time with the Anglican Youth group.
She is survived by her husband Theodore (Ted), brother Hampton Lewis of Amherst and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Peggy is predeceased by sisters Francis Chapman, Gladys Lewis, Olive Jobe, Marion Lewis and Susie Brundage and brothers David, Chester, James, Alvin, Arthur and Walter.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst. (667-9906)
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 10 a.m. from Christ Church, Amherst with Archdeacon Glenn Eason and The Rev. David Myles officiating.
Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Peggy's memory may be made to the Christ Church, Amherst or charity of your choice.
