H. Barrie T. Miller

92 of Dartmouth, NS, passed away at home Friday, April 27, 2012 with his loving family by his side.
Born in Baie Verte, NB. He was the son of the late Hugh and Ethel Jane (Boundy) Miller. Barrie was a long standing member of Kiwanis from 1984-2012. He was president of the Woodlawn Club from 1990-91, Lieutenant Govenor of Division 19 from 1992-93. He was an active member of the Woodlawn Golden K Kiwanis Club. He was an avid supporter of his church. Most of all he loved the Areonautical industry. He spent all of his working life as first a radio operator at Gander, NL, during the Second World War and then Transportation Canada, working at the Moncton and then the new Halifax Airport until he retired after 42 years of Public Service. His hobby was to monitor and track the weather. He was an avid reader, with insatiable love of technology, especially electronics, aviation and cars. He lived to travel by air and by sea.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Jessie Elizabeth (Appleby) born in Nelson, Miramichi; daughter Marilyn Jean and daughter-in-law Nancy Mary Ives both of Dartmouth; niece Carolyn (St.John) (Miller) Blakely, Oakville, ON; cousins Beth Robinson of Charlottetown, PE; Anne Robertson and family of Hout Bay, Cape Providence, South Africa. He was predeceased by his son Brian Appleby Miller.
Visitation will take place Thursday May 3, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street. Funeral service will take place Friday, May 4, 2012 at 2 p.m. in Woodlawn United Church. Rev. Phillip Kennedy officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
