We regret to announce the death of our wonderful mother, grandmother and sister. Esther passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the MacGillivray Guest Home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Bras d’Or, she was the daughter of the late George and Janie Long.
Mom was a home body and her greatest joy in life was her family. She loved to knit and crochet and family and friends enjoyed the fruits of her labour. She loved children and there was always room for more at our house.
The staff at MacGillivray Guest Home became part of her family in the 16 months she lived there. She loved each and every one of them and called them her babies. They, in turn, gave her tender loving care.
Mom is survived by her children, Emerson (Lenora), Janice McInnis (Jackie), Ella Carey (Auley), all in Mill Creek, Esther Dolhanty (Duke), Sydney Mines, Danny (Chris), Sydney, Denice Buffett (Wayne) and Wilfred (Georgena), Alder Point. Also surviving is her very special granddaughter, her sidekick, Joella Marks; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Muriel Carey, Florence; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Elias Jessome, the love of her life, her son, Robert and infant son, Elias, her son-in-law, Joseph Marks, her granddaughter, Valda Walters, her grandson, Darrin Dolhanty, her great-grandson, John Gouthro, her brothers, George and Emerson Long and her sisters, Ben Tobin, Maggie Dawe, Dorothy Carey and Sarah Day.
Visitation Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
