TAYLOR: Jack Earl of Eastend, Saskatchewan, slipped away quietly on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre, one day shy of his 91st birthday. Jack was born on the Mont Taylor farm south of Eastend, on April 29, 1921. Jack attended the Wyle School completing grade 9 there. He then worked with his dad on the family farm until he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. Jack married Arlene Peterson on March 5, 1943 at Edmonton, Alberta. Jack was stationed at Halifax, Nova Scotia where he and Arlene lived until Jack was posted to Gander, Newfoundland with the Air Force as an Air Frame Mechanic. At this time Arlene went to be with her parents and for the birth of their first child. Following the war they lived in Edmonton for a few years where Jack worked as a carpenter with his father-in-law. In 1946 they purchased the James and Herman Strong farm and returned to farm full time in 1950, where they raised their family. Jack was an excellent farmer and cattleman, all abilities that he passed along to his family. His carpentry experience enabled him to help neighbours building houses and cabinets and many other items for neighbours and family members. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion where he held various positions. Jack served as a leader in the Golden Sheaf 4-H Grain Club; many of these members are still farming in the community today. He was a member of the Eastbrook Snowplow Club and the Steam Engine Club. Jack also served on the boards of the Eastend Co-op and the Eastend Historical Society. In 1998 Jack retired to Valley Manor in Eastend where he lived with his beloved wife until an injury left him unable to care for himself and he became a resident of Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre in 2007 until the time of his passing. Jack was predeceased by his wife Arlene on November 14, 2010, two sons, Ron on September 26, 1995 and Larry on July 12, 2006, his parents Earl and Ouida Taylor, his brothers Norm, Don, Glen and Bob and his sisters Marge and Ruth. He is survived by his son Terry (Maggie) of Eastend, his daughter Karen Parks (James) of Langdon, Alberta, his grandchildren Robert Taylor, Deanna Brooks (Todd), Lori Good (Jamie), Anne Taylor (T.J. Haggart), Dawn VanSandt (Cam), Ted Taylor (Ashley), Brighton Parks, Brock Parks, eight great grandchildren, his sister Helen Sajtovich (John) of Bay Tree, Alberta and his brother Gary (Bev) of Camrose, Alberta as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A Memorial Tea and Celebration of his Life was held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from Eastend Memorial Hall with Funeral Celebrant Bernadette Schneider officiating. A tribute was given by the grandchildren. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion presented the Legion Tribute. Interment took place at Riverside Cemetery at Eastend. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were Grant Taylor, Dale Taylor, Doug Durrant, Neil McCuaig, Ted Taylor and Brighton Parks.
