Pierce, John Robert - 99, East Earltown, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Wolfville, Kings County, he was a son of the late Herbert and Annie (Marchinkowski) Pierce. Besides working on his own dairy farm in East Earltown, John had worked at various jobs, including as a photographer at Smith’s Studio in Amherst. He was also well known as having sung in various local choirs and quartets. Prior to moving to East Cumberland Lodge he had resided at the Hills of Annan Seniors Complex in Tatamagouche. Surviving are his sons, Miles (Darlene) Pierce, East Earltown and Wilfred (Marjorie) Pierce, Beaver Brook; grandchildren, Stephanie (Robert) Cowell; Jo-anne (John) Bain and Kenneth (Natalie) Pierce; six great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret (Ed) Murphy, Evangeline Beach; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn (Brown) Pierce; grandson, Douglas Pierce; siblings, Mary, Joe, Frank, Lewis, Marshall, Don, Fred and Doug. At John’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2012 in Forest Hill Cemetery, Denmark, Rev. Morley Bentley officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to any charity. Arrangements have been entrusted to Coulter’s Funeral Home, 48 Riverside Drive, Tatamagouche (657-3288).
