FRlCKE: Henry Herman Ernest Fricke, a farmer, passed away December 17, 2009, with family at his side. The funeral service celebrating Dad's life and his reunion with Mom for Christmas was held on December 22, 2009 at 2:00 PM from Mount Calvary Lutheran Church with Pastor Brad Julian officiating. Henry was born January 11, 1921 in Cratze, Hanover, Germany to August and Ida Fricke. In 1929 the family immigrated to Canada, landing in Montreal, they made their way to the Vesper area. Dad enjoyed playing hockey and baseball on the teams in the area. He told us stories of swimming in Lac Pelletier in the summer and skating to Swift Current in the winter. He had mentioned in the last year or so how much the flow of water from Lac Pelletier had changed from his youth. On November 17, 1945 Henry was united in marriage to Alice Ruth Davison at the First United Church in Swift Current. They came to live and farm the "home quarter" as they came to call the farm where their family was raised. They were blessed with three children: Sandra (Lloyd) Hinks and their children Travis (Melanie) Reimer, Tanner and Kaitlyn, Tyler (Natalie) Dakota, Wyatt, Madison and Montana, Tamara (Shawn) Jackson and Alivia, Clifford (Ardith) Fricke and their children Jenny and Clinton, Joyce (Dale) Dickson and their children Dustyn, Landyn and Skylar. Henry is survived by 7 nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by the love of his life Alice Ruth Fricke, July 10, 2003, sister Elfreda Gray March 8, 2008, son-in-law Melvin Reimer Nov 23, 1970, mother Ida Fricke Jan 23, 1970, father August Fricke March 26,1962, father-in-law Harry Davison March 30, 1949, mother-in-law Clara Davison-George Feb 26, 1976, brother-in-law Vernon July 1962 and a brother in infancy, as well as three nephews. Over the years Dad spent time working with horses and farming the unmechanized way, until the first tractor arrived on the farm. He had many stories about his horses, cows and dogs over the years. He also enjoyed hunting, making many trips "north" to hunt moose. He enjoyed fishing as well and had many a fish story. He taught most of us some tricks about how to catch fish. He also organized the North Star 4-H Club in 1961. He served as a leader for a number of years. Dad was also a councilor for RM #137, served with the Belvedere Phone Co., was a trustee of the school unit, a member of the Hill & Dale Snowplow Club, where he spent countless hours blowing snow for neighbors and a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church where he spent countless hours volunteering. In the past few years he spent time relaying stories to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, going on little "history" trips to Lac Pelletier, Vesper area and the farm. He spent time puttering in his garage and enjoying his yard and small garden in Swift Current - always a steward of the land. He was proud of his oak tree in his front yard. We all have our precious memories of the stories and history he relayed to each and everyone of us. The pallbearers were Henry's five grandsons and oldest great grandson: Travis Reimer, Tyler Hinks, Clinton Fricke, Dustyn Dickson, Landyn Dickson and Tanner Reimer. The ushers were a neighbor from the city Lawrence Achtemichuk and a neighbor from the farm Jerry Biese. John Marsch a long-time friend and neighbor gave a wonderful tribute to Dad's life. The organist was Karen MacCallum a friend and neighbor. Memorial donations in Henry's memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Assn. and the Gideon Bibles International. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
