It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of John Neil MacPhee on Sunday, May 13, 2012, at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Inverness, John was the son of the late John and Margaret (Cameron) MacPhee.
John was a veteran of the Second World War.
After the war, John was employed in construction and mining in Cape Breton. He later worked in the hospital, maintenance department in Kamloops, B.C. until his retirement.
He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion branch 32, Cheticamp.
John loved Cape Breton and had a great passion for Celtic music. He was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens, but most of all, John was a great family man.
John is survived by wife, Pauline and stepsons, David and Sheldon Dunn; daughter, Jackie MacPhee and grandsons, Zachary and Zane Gardiner, Edmonton. He is survived by sisters, Pat O’Neil, Boston, Mass., and Frances McDaniel, Margaree Forks; brother, Malcom ‘Mack’ MacPhee, Margaree Forks; and many loving nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by son, Darryl MacPhee, grandson, Sebastian, sisters, Mary Jones and Agatha McKinnon and a brother, Thomas MacPhee.
Visitation for the late John Neil MacPhee will be held today (Tuesday), May 15, 2012, in St. Patrick’s Church Hall, N.E. Margaree from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with prayer vigil at 8 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate the life of John Neil MacPhee will be held Wednesday, May 16 at 11 a.m. in Stella Maris Church, Inverness, with Fr. Douglas MacDonald officiating. Interment will take place in the Stella Maris Cemetery, Inverness.
Donations in memory of John may be made to the Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
