D. Gwen Morehouse

MOREHOUSE, D. GWEN - (September 22, 1922 - May 21, 2012) - D. Gwen Morehouse died unexpectedly and peacefully at her home in Plaster Rock, NB with her family at her side. Born September 22, 1922 in Brightling, England she was the only daughter of the late Donald and Ellen (Balcombe) Baker. While doing her nurse's training during World War 11, she met the love of her life, W. Edwin Morehouse of the North Shore Regiment. He was a Miramicher from Upper Blackville, NB and they were married in August 1943. In December 1944, husband, war bride and baby daughter came to Canada and were welcomed lovingly by the Morehouse family of Upper Blackville. Mum over the years after coming to Canada was always involved in church and community affairs - Mission Band, Sunday School Teacher, WMS president, North Shore Association Member, Women's Institute, Ground Observer Corps, Sunshine Senior Group and Treasurer Black Brook Salmon Club. She loved gardening and the great outdoors, knitting, sewing and smocking. She was known for using her flowers to make bridal bouquets, funeral arrangements and many bouquets to beautify the church sanctuary. She helped her husband with his work, from rolling fire hoses, saving animals found in his line of work and writing up reports. She helped with their market garden centre and Christmas tree plantation. If anything was worth doing - it was worth doing well. Mum, Grammy, Great Grammy we will miss you. She so appreciated all the cards she received in the last few months. The mail was checked everyday. Loved to read until her eyesight got bad and loved to walk. Enjoyed her four grandchildren, those who came from Ontario to Upper Blackville for many summers. Survived by two daughters Susan Morehouse and Wendy Sullivan (partner Stephen Taylor) both of Plaster Rock; two grandsons Wayne Sullivan of Toronto and Sean Sullivan (Rhonda) of Grand Falls; two granddaughters Connie Lee Byham (Ryan) of Barrie, ON and Candy Lynn Finnamore (Sherman) of Plaster Rock; four great grandsons Clayton Byham, Parker, Phillip and David Finnamore; two nephews and two nieces Eric, David, Carole and Anita of England, their families and extended families and some cousins.
