ALLEN (Sypher, Winchester), Yvonne Inez – 89, of Yarmouth, passed away suddenly on May 18, 2012 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in the picturesque village of Sandy Cove, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Scott and Inez (Manzer) Sypher. Yvonne’s greatest joy was her family and home, followed by dedication and faithfulness to Zion United Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities for over 50 years. She was a 40 year member of Opal Rebekah Lodge #45, having served as Chaplain, Post Noble Grand and past District Deputy President. Yvonne was involved for many years with the Canadian Cancer Society, serving as President for five of those years. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, travelling, playing bridge and visiting with the elderly. She is survived by son, Terry (Joan) Winchester, Granville Ferry; daughters, Linda Baker, Frankford, Ont.; Carol (Rev. David) Slauenwhite, Parry Sound, Ont.; Wendy (Edwin) Pitman, South Ohio; Nancy Hunter, Yarmouth; sister, Frances Warren, Kentville; sister-in-law, Dorothy Sypher, Hantsport; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one niece and two nephews. She was predeceased by first husband, Carl F. Winchester; second husband, Merle B. Allen; brothers, Eric and Morley Sypher. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation took place on Tuesday, May 22 from 1 p.m. until funeral service began at 2 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Brian Wallace officiated. Interment followed in Chebogue Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Donations in Yvonne’s memory may be made to Zion United Baptist Church, Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. A special thank-you to Dr. C. Wyman, Dr. J. Chandler and Dr. L. Maher for the excellent care you gave our Mom. Appreciation is extended to Cora, Mike and staff at Gentle Care Seniors Boarding Home for their love and support over the past four years.
