CLEVELAND, Gertrude Irene - It is with sadness that the family of Gertrude (Larkin) Cleveland announces her passing away peacefully at Marianhill, Pembroke on Monday, May 2, 2011 in her 88th year. She was born in East Pubnico, Yarmouth Co., on January 18, 1924. She was the youngest daughter of the late Francis A. Larkin and Gertrude L. Larkin. She is survived by sons, Ronald Cleveland, Pembroke, Ont.; Robert (Kim) Cleveland; granddaughters, Amanda (Jason) Brazeau, Amy Cleveland, Melissa Cleveland, Megan Cleveland and Alana Cleveland, all living in Pembroke, Ont.; sister-In-law, Ida (Fox) Larkin, West Pubnico; as well as many Larkin nieces and grandson, Tim (Linda) Dean of Halifax, and his children; niece, Patsy Baker-Cleveland, Perth, Ont. and her son. She was predeceased by husband, Lawrence Russell Cleveland; brothers, Windsor Larkin, Danny Larkin, Walter Larkin and Malcolm Larkin; sister, Edna (Larkin) Quinn. Gertrude was the last surviving member of her family. She was a member of the Wesley United Church and Beacon United Church. She lived for her cats, and was well known for her beautiful flower gardens on Brunswick Street. Over the years, she was employed at the Singer Sewing Store, Yarmouth Royal Store and later, as an RNA at Yarmouth Tidal View, where she gained many friends. Respecting Gertrude's wishes, cremation has taken place and her ashes are being brought back home with a graveside service at Brooklyn Cemetery on May 23, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ray Corbett officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth.
