It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Keith Myers MacKenzie, 62, of Ross Ferry, May 22, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Myers was born in Ross Ferry on April 26, 1950, to the late Alexander and Nellie (Myers) MacKenzie.
Myers was a kind and gentle soul, who had an infectious sense of humour.
He loved being in the woods and worked most of his life in the tree removal business in Ontario. He returned home to Cape Breton, the home of his heart, 10 years ago to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
He was very proud to be part of the creation of the Ross Ferry Marine Park and walking trails, a place where he could often be found. Myers was also an avid sports fan, dart player, and enjoyed watching the Nascar races.
Myers is survived by his children, Alana MacKenzie (Pat) and Vicki Podetz (Troy) and his four grandchildren, Mackenzie, Lachlan, Zachary, and Zoë. He was also survived by sisters, Ruth Johns, Cavell Wrigglesworth (George) and brother, Walter MacKenzie (Karen), all of Ontario; as well as many nieces and nephews, and many loved ones.
Besides his parents, Myers was predeceased by siblings, Vivian, Helen, Alexandria, Robert, Allister and two infant siblings.
Many thanks to Tom MacNeil from the Cape Breton Cancer Centre for his constant support, as well as to Dr. Jensen and a special thank you to all of the nurses who cared for Myers during his last days at the Northside General Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at Drummond United Church, Ross Ferry, Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sean Handcock officiating. A small reception will follow.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
