It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Mary Riggs, Wednesday, May 23, 2012, in the early morning hours, at her home.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Modesta (McDougall) McMullin.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, a member of the Children of Mary and a life member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 19, North Sydney.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Alice (Gerard) McNamara, Westmount, Theresa (Pete) Werbeski, Summerland, B.C., Regina ‘Lovey’ Walker (Brent), Calgary, Anna (Mike) Howes, Oyama, B.C., Tena, Calgary, Mary, North Sydney; and sons, Colin, Alberta, and James, North Sydney. She will be greatly missed by her 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, John (Linda) Riggs and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, James, her son, Ronald, sisters, Murial, Cecilia and Alma and her brother Colin.
There will be no visitation by request. A celebration of Mary’s life will take place later in the summer.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
