The family respectfully announces the loss of Evelyn Ruthven, who died peacefully in hospice.
She was born and raised in Sydney, Cape Breton, the oldest of nine children, over time lived across Canada and abroad before locating to the Okanagan, with her husband, Ike, in the mid 1980s.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as her brothers and sisters.
In addition to raising a family she was involved occupationally with the federal civil service and contributed to community activities. Her hobbies included bowling, curling, gardening and reading. In retirement years Evelyn was a dedicated volunteer for; the RCMP Community Policing Office, the Schubert Centre, and Polson Extended Care.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and volunteers of North Okanagan Hospice Society and Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
As requested by Evelyn, there will be no formal funeral service. Cremation will be followed by a celebration of her life at the Schubert Centre (3505- 30 Avenue Vernon, B.C.) on Friday June 1, 2012 from 2-4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
