BANKS – Mr. Leslie late of Birch Hills, SK passed away peacefully at his home in the Birchview Nursing Home on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at the age of 84 years. He was born on November 6, 1925 at the Banks homestead north of Brancepeth, SK. Leslie lived and farmed on the original homestead for 60 years. Leslie enjoyed playing hockey with the Brancepeth Beavers and curled in Brancepeth and Birch Hills. He also played ball with the Brancepeth ball team, enjoyed taking part in all the rodeos of the area and enjoyed fishing with his buddies. Les renewed an earlier love and friendship marrying Marjorie in 1985 and moved into Birch Hills. They also spend many hours at the cabin, Saturday night dances and country drives with friends. He also took great pride in keeping their yard trimmed. After his marriage to Marjorie he enjoyed his many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. After his move to Birchview Nursing Home in 2005 he then gave many grandchildren and great grandchildren rides on his scooter up and down the hall way. He will be remembered for this smirk and good humor, he liked to tease.
Les is survived by his wife Marjorie (nee Stobbs/Stewart); his stepdaughters Jean (Murray) Tait; Joan (Bob) Shore; Ruth (Alan) Boyle; Darlene (Dave) Folstad; his 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; his brothers Bill (Caroline) Banks; George Banks; his sister Alice (Lester) Franklin; his brothers-in-law Bud Austin and Elwin Stobbs; his sisters-in-law Helen Collins and Doreen (Ray) Trevor; his special nephew and nieces Garry Banks, Donna Banks and Lorraine (Don) Bray; as well as many other family members.
Les was predeceased by his parents Richard and Lillian (nee Robinson) Banks; his brothers Verne and Oswald Banks; his sisters Hilda Thompson, Ruth Banks and Dora Austin; his brothers-in-law Earl Thompson, Norman Stamnes, Archie Newton; his sisters-in-law Blanda Banks, Tillie Haydukewich, Jean Banks, Verna Newton, Eunice Stamnes; his god son Vance Tait; his niece Bonnie Banks; his nephew Greg Franklin. In lieu of tributes donations can be made to the Birchview Auxiliary. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the Brancepeth Hall, with Rev. Chris Harper officiating.
