Walter Goodwin

Walter Taplin Goodwin Jr., a life long resident of Amherst, passed away suddenly at his residence on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the age of 88
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Walter and Lottie (MacDonald) Goodwin.
He graduated from Amherst Senior High, having played on the School Football team and the Under 18 Hockey Team. He served with the North Novies in the R.C.N.V.R during the war. Following the war, he worked in the family business "Goodwin's Super Market" for 37 years, later working in Sackville with Atlantic Wholesalers for another 14 years.
Walter was very active in his community. He was a member of Trinity St. Stephen United Church where he was on the Church Council and Men's Club for 40 years. He also served with and belonged to the Amherst Jr. Board of Trade, the Amherst Y's Men's Club, Amherst Town Council for 3 years, Acacia Lodge for over 50 years, Amherst Retail Merchants, the Royal Canadian Legion and past chairman of the Amherst Christmas Parade. He served with the Amherst Red Cross for over 40 years, volunteered for the Cancer Society and the V.O.N.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter Patti Goodwin (John Weir), Toronto, ON; brother Ellis (Madeleine), London, ON; nephews Charles Goodwin, Amherst, Enid Goodwin-Gough, London, ON, Stephen Goodwin, New Glasgow, Grant Goodwin, BC.
He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Truleen Teed Goodwin; son Terry David Goodwin; siblings Eileen Chapman, MacKenzie Goodwin and Arthur Goodwin.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Monday, May 28, 2012 from 4 pm until 6:30 pm. The Acacia Masonic Lodge will be holding a service Monday at 6:30 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church, Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 11 am, followed by a reception.
