HAMMOND - Mr. Donald "Don" Stanton Hammond, beloved husband of Mrs. Yvonne Hammond of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Don also leaves to cherish his memory four daughters, Donna (Bill) Neufeld of Saskatoon, Brenda Monette of Medicine Hat, Elaine (Ken) Arsenault of Saskatoon, and Kathryn (Mark) Douville of Medicine Hat; nine grandchildren, Tania, Kim, Ryan, Cara, Lindsay, Tim, Kayli, Jannay, and Michelle; six great-grandchildren, Cole, Ashton, Jules, Jaxson, Aivryn, and Preston; one sister, Janie (Jack) Nelson of Youngstown, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Blanche Hammond; one son-in-law, Frank Monette; one brother, Ben Hammond; and one sister, Ada Gilham. Don was born on December 17, 1924, in Vanguard, SK. He attended university and studied agriculture for two years. Don married Yvonne Larson on July 30, 1949. Don was very successful at farming. He was Full Lieutenant with the 14th Canadian Hussars (Reserve Army); as well as a life member of the Elks and the Masons. Don loved the wide open spaces of farmland and enjoyed doing yard work and gardening. Well known as "Mr. Fixit", no task was done right unless it was perfect. Don enjoyed the times spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service was held in Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, #1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Loren Hosfield officiating. Interment took place in the Family Plot at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery.
