A life to be celebrated--Margie Sceviour, daughter of Ella (Bailey) and Charles Kelly, was born in Trinity, NL. She grew up in St. John’s but spent time with her aunt and uncle, Amy and Will Pearce in Exploits, NL. As a little girl of eight she travelled alone by coastal steamer to Exploits where she spent a whole year before returning home to St. John’s. In 1939, she married Wallace, the love of her life, and moved to Brown’s Arm, NL. Their married life was a busy one, managing their farm, their general store and raising their four “blessings”. In later years, they moved to Falmouth, NS, where they enjoyed time with their daughters and families. They spent winters in Falmouth and summers in Brown’s Arm for thirty years. After Wallace’s death in 2004, Margie returned to NL fulltime, and lived in her cottage in Lewisporte. She continued to enjoy trips to NS and weekends at the family farm in Brown’s Arm with Sunday dinners at Bill and Joy‘s house.
A lover of music, Margie, played the organ for Anglican Church services in Brown’s Arm in the early years and taught organ and piano to students. An avid reader and knowledgeable gardener, an award-winning senior bowler, an excellent craftsperson who started rug hooking in her mid-eighties, Margie instilled in her children and grandchildren a love of reading and the readiness to enjoy new things. She enjoyed using her computer and used email to stay in touch. Her family enjoyed her total love and acceptance, as well as her gentle guidance and nurturing.
Besides her beloved Wallace, husband of 65 years, Margie was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings: Hazel (Jack) South, Sue (Edward) Rick, Fitzroy (Mary) Kelly, Mamie (William) McCormack, Ernest Kelly and four others who died in infancy. She leaves wonderful memories as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her children Bill (Joy), Sherrill (John) Swinamer, Ruth (Ches) Roberts, Jim (Cheryl); her grandchildren Elizabeth (Jason) Wolfe, Kathryn (Lee) Howarth, Sean Sceviour, Kimberley (Jason) Canning, Thomas (Krista) Roberts and Kelly Roberts (Simon), Graham Sceviour; great-grandchildren Tyler and Jenna Howarth, Coen and Keira Wolfe, Lincoln Canning; several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are being handled by Woolfrey’s Funeral Home, with visiting hours of 2-4 pm on Sunday, June 3 and 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Monday, June 4. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul‘s Anglican Church, Lewisporte, at 2 pm on Tuesday, June 5, with internment to follow at St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Brown‘s Arm.
In Margie’s memory, you may plant a shrub or perennial in your garden or donate to St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery Fund Brown’s Arm (PO Box 696, Lewisporte, NL A0G 3A0) or North Haven Manor’s Palliative Care Unit (PO Box 880, Lewisporte, NL A0G 3A0).
He who makes a garden walks hand in hand with God.
