DUNLOP, Lloyd David Miller – 93, of Veteran’s Place in Yarmouth, passed away on June 4, 2012 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born March 3, 1919 in Birmingham, England, he was a son of the late David Dunlop. He later moved from Birmingham to River Denys in Cape Breton, where he was a wood cutter alongside his father before the Second World War began. Lloyd was a member of First Special Service Force, serving jointly with the American and Canadian military in the Second World War. He was also employed by the gypsum mines in Parrsboro. Later in life, he became a beloved Commissionaire at Yarmouth Regional Hospital for many years. He loved to do puzzles, walking and woodworking. He is survived by stepson, Ronald (Shirley) Whittaker, Morris Island; stepdaughter, Donna Dugas, Arcadia; grandchildren, Mark and Jason Dugas; Daniel (Tara) Whittaker; Rhonda (Jerry) Jacquard; Pam Porter , Angie Saulnier and Leonard Whittaker; great-grandchildren, Jared Dugas and MacKenzie Whittaker. He was predeceased by wife of 42 years, whom he married in 1970, Lillian Whittaker; brother, Donald; stepsons, Stanley, David and Darrell; stepdaughter, Brenda; granddaughter, Dawn. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation took place on Wednesday, June 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, where funeral service and Royal Canadian Legion service were held Thursday, June 7 at 3 p.m. Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiated. Interment followed in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Family flowers only, please.
