Kenney, Effie Cavell (Giddens, Delay) Windsor N.S., formerly of Collingwood, Cumb. Co. passed away June 7th, 2012 in Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, NS. Born Oct. 1917, in Amherst, NS., she was the daughter of Murray and Violet (Mooring) Ripley, Collingwood. Effie was very active in the Collingwood United Church and was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and choir member for many years. Effie was a member and Past Worthy Matron of O.E.S., Pugwash "Sunrise Chapter" #50 and Past Grand Esther O.E.S. Effie displayed her artistic talents throughout her adult life through her artwork, painting, ceramics and rug hooking. Effie was a member of the Springhill and Wallace rug hooking clubs and was made a life member of the Nova Scotia Rug Hooking Guild in 1995.
Effie’s immediate and extended families were a source of great enjoyment and pride to her. Effie spent many enjoyable summers at the family cottage in Port Philip. Effie is survived by her husband Frederick Alfred Kenney, Windsor; sons Harold (Bonnie) Giddens, Wentworth, Gerald (Phyllis) Giddens, New Minas; stepdaughter Joanne Denise, Tenn; granddaughter Jane (Bruce) Anderson, Los Angeles; grandsons Jason Giddens , Truro, Christopher (Heather) Giddens, Fall River, Andrew Giddens, Dartmouth; great-grandchildren Lindsay and Emily Anderson, Madilynn Giddens, Tristan and Camryn Giddens; several nieces and nephews. Effie was predeceased by her first husband Aubrey Giddens, second husband Edwin Delay grandson Scott Giddens, sister Norma Ripley, brothers Vaughan, Allison, Neil and Gordon. Effie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Arrangements have been entrusted to W Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford (902-447-2167) where visitation was held from 7 to 9 pm on Sunday. A funeral service was held at the Collingwood United Church on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 2 pm, Rev. Dan Gunn officiating. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Collingwood United Church.
