SHERMAN, William Wallace “Billy” – went home to be with his Lord and Saviour early Sunday morning, June 17, 2012 at the age of 78. Born August 22, 1933 in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Everett and Mary (Dulong) Sherman. Billy fought his battle with cancer courageously for the last few months and was in Yarmouth Regional Hospital for the past six weeks, where he received wonderful care from all the nurses and staff. Before being admitted in the hospital, he had many home care workers that helped him. He was a kind and friendly man who had lots of friends. Billy loved to walk and take pictures, go to Spears & McLeod Pharmacy, visit Tim Horton’s, the bank as well as many other places. He also enjoyed going for drives with Roger and visiting yard sales along the way. He had friends all over town and will be dearly missed. Billy was a member of Evangel Assembly in Yarmouth, where he would be in attendance every Sunday morning unless he was sick. He had many friends at the church and the seniors' residence where he lived who will miss him. His caregivers were especially kind and did many things for him, especially Shirley Bullerwell, who now lives in Peterborough, Ontario. Grace Smith and her girls recently cared for Billy. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by several cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Frank and Everett; sisters, Pearl Sherman and Ella Hamilton. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation took place one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, June 20 from 1-2 p.m. at Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, where funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Pastor Oral Stewart officiated. Interment followed in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. You may make a donation in Billy’s memory to Evangel Assembly or Canadian Cancer Society.
