Edward Maltby
It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Edward M. Maltby, age 81, of Amherst. Edward passed away peacefully at Gables Lodge on Monday, June 18, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Fred and Pearl (Brown) Maltby.
Edward attended West Highland School. He went to work in Ontario for the St. Catherine's School Board, then entered into construction until an accident rendered him a paraplegic for the rest of his life. Following his accident he returned to Amherst. He was a long time fan of Amherst Little League, where he enjoyed many hours watching the games. He was a member of several lodges including Alexandra Lodge #87 where he was Past Master, Past District Deputy; he was Grand Chaplain and Past President of the Amherst Masonic Society; Past Patron from 1996-2000 in the Order of the Eastern Star; Member of the Grand Orange Lodge where he was Past Master Lemon 102, Past County Master (Westmorland); and he held his 50 year Lions Service Jewel.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Peter (Heather) of Moncton; daughter, Terry Anne (Stephen) Erb of Parrsboro; grandchildren, Douglas Maltby, Matthew Maltby, Stephanie Critchley, Brandon Erb, Jordan Erb, Taryn Erb, Sarah Mitton, Tara MacKay; great granddaughter Kiera Dryden; brothers, Walter (Beverly) & Roy (Evelyn) both of Amherst; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst where visiting hours will take place Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm. The Alexander Masonic Lodge of Amherst will hold a memorial service at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Furlong~Jones Chapel on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at 2 pm, officiated by Rev. Byron Corkum, followed by burial in the Amherst Cemetery.
