George  Vansnick Jr.

George VanSnick Jr., age 83, of River Hebert, passed away unexpectedly at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Tuesday, June 19, 2012.
Born in Joggins, he was a son of the late George and Mabel (Comeau) VanSnick.
George worked as a Coal Miner in the River Hebert Mine and the Joggins Green Crow. After the River Hebert Mine closed, he worked as the Foreman at the Atlantic Galvanizers Division in Amherst, then opened and operated Sonny's Groceries General Store in River Hebert for 30 years. He was a well known and well liked member of his communities. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was a member of the Joggins Legion.
He will be sadly missed by 5 sons, Gerald (Debbie), Amherst, Keith (Cheryl), Joggins, Mike (Julie), Lower Maccan, Wade (Marcy) and Richard, both of Amherst; a daughter Sandra Vance (Ray Baker), Amherst, several grandchildren and great grandchildren; 5 brothers Howard (Doris) Joggins, Roger (Violet) Joggins, Louis, Lr. Maccan, Peter, River Hebert and Robert (Josephine) Shediac; 5 sisters, Genevieve Willigar, Parrsboro, Joan Burbine, River Hebert, Grace (Lawson) Vance, Joggins, Rose Marie (Ron) Cormier, Amherst, Catherine (Phillip) MacKenzie, Lr. Sackville; several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to his dear friend Gretol Stevens and her family for their help & support with George over the past few years.
He was predeceased by infant brother Kenneth and 2 grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert where the visiting hours will take place on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins, Father Vernon Driscoll officiating on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 10 am, followed by burial in the parish cemetery.
