John (Jack) Bourgeois
With much sadness the family of John (Jack) Bourgeois, age 71, announce his peaceful passing, surrounded by his loving family, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Wednesday, June 27, 2012.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Leon and Jean (McDonald) Bourgeois.
Jack was a "home body", but also enjoyed 4 wheeling, hunting and fishing at his camp at Hart Lake. He was an avid "Ramblers" and "Blue Jays" fan, rarely missing a game. As a young man he was a well known local pitcher, having been a member of the Amherst "Blue Jays" who in 1957 won the Maritime Baseball Championship. A long time member of the Sergeant's Mess, he enjoyed their dart games. His most important role in life was a teacher, passing along to his children and grandchildren life's valuable lessons. "Everyone liked Jack".
Married 51 years, Jack will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Annie Burke, as well as by sons, Bruce (Brenda) Burke, Amherst and Jack (Cathy MacLeod) Bourgeois, River Hebert; daughters, Cindy (Kevin Chiasson) Bourgeois, Sydney, NS and Jill (Bryan) Carter, Amherst, NS; grandchildren, Jason, Adam, Melissa, Ashley, Tyla, Lawson, Connor, Molly Kate, Ella, Anna and Ben; 2 great grandchildren, Paige and Bennett, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He was predeceased by a sister Donna Brown, as well as a special aunt and uncle, Molly and Bud Fromm.
Jack's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777), from where a time of visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Parish Prayers will be held at 8:30 at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held at the Holy Family Parish Church on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 10 am. Burial in the Minudie Cemetery, following a reception in the Church Hall.
