It is with great sadness that we advise the passing of Doug Rudderham, Westmount, N.S. on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
He was born July 18, 1925, of Richard and Susan (Rose) Rudderham, Point Edward.
He is survived by his son, Bob (Marlene); grandsons, Jeff (Terri) and Jody, great-granddaughters, Alex, Sydney and Jordan, all of Halifax; brother, Don of Toronto; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary (MacMullin), three brothers, Albert, Eddie and George, and four sisters, Mildred, Irene, Helen and Inez.
Doug enjoyed a long and successful career at Sydney Steel, retiring as manager of Mobile Operations. Raised in Point Edward, N.S., he was a keen and avid sportsman, particularly proud of his days with the Championship Point Edward Cubs and Westside 126 Legion Provincial bowling and curling titles. He was a decorated RCAF veteran of the Second World War serving in Europe for several years. Doug was a uniquely kind and caring person who loved his family enormously and was loved and admired by all who knew him.
The family thanks his personal physicians Dr. Jackson and Dr. Houssein, his personal care assistants, Anne, Billy, Marie, the VON, Cape Breton Metro Homecare and the amazing staff of the An Cala Palliative Care for their caring and sincere support of Doug throughout the past years.
Visitation for Doug will be held Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney, 539-3002. Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Rosary Church, Westmount, with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
