PORTER (Boyd), Ruth Viola - 97, of The Meadows Home for Special Care in Yarmouth, passed away on July 1, 2012 at The Meadows. A lifelong resident of Yarmouth, Ruth was a serving Soldier in the Salvation Army. She was also a member of the Women’s Ministry Group: the Home League. She volunteered at the Thrift Store among other activities. She developed in an interest in the Porter family genealogy and did the initial research. Her parents were William and Marion Boyd, and had two brothers, Loarn and Stephen. She is survived by niece, Victorene Rhodes, Wilmer, Alabama; nephew, Hugh Porter, Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by husband, Victor; infant son, John. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Wednesday, July 4 from 7-9 p.m. at the Salvation Army Community Church. Funeral service was held from the Salvation Army Community Church on Thursday, July 5 at 11 a.m., Majors Peter and Janice Rowe officiated. A reception at the church followed the interment in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Donations in memory of Ruth may be made to the Salvation Army in Yarmouth.
