Daniel born to David and Corinna Filippino in Calgary on Jan. 12, 1931. He spent his early years in Timmins, Ont., before moving to nearby Smooth Rock Falls, where he met the love of his life, Hermine Duguay.

He spent a long career in the pulp and paper industry, first in Marathon, Ont., then in Kamloops, before retiring to Vancouver Island in 1991. A private but very generous man, he enjoyed shooting pool, gardening, watching boxing and listening to Elvis, not necessarily in that order. He spent untold hours quietly volunteering for the Cottage thrift shop at St. Joseph's Hospital, repairing electrical devices and

raising thousands of dollars a year by sorting and selling books.

He is survived by Hermine, their children Tina (Sally Gellard) Filippino and Lucille (Jack) Knox, grandchildren Bailee, Jacob and Norah Erickson and Molly Knox and by his sister Rose Villa. He was predeceased by sisters Yole and Nevis.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 7th., 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, Courtenay, B.C.
