BOURQUE, Bernard Paul “Bernie” - 77, Summerville, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 2, 2012 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born August 13, 1934 in Eel Brook, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Angelina (Doucette) Bourque. Bernie was a retired branch manager for Farmer’s Dairy (formerly Superior Dairy) in Yarmouth, having worked with them for 31 years. He was a devoted member of Saint Ambrose Cathedral parish, Yarmouth, and he was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 155, Wedgeport. Bernie was quite athletic, and he was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed gardening, walking, bowling and dancing. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mildred M. (Doucette) Bourque, as well as by their two children, Patsy (Hubert) Surette, Eel Brook, and Tony (Marie) Bourque, Yarmouth, along with his grandsons, Matthew Muise, Toronto and Chad (Cindy) Smith, South Ohio and a great grandson, Cohen Smith. He is also survived by siblings, Gerald (Betty) Bourque, Toronto; Delbert (Lilly) Bourque, Norma (Ben) Hubbard, both of Belleville; Kenneth (Karen) Blanchard, Yarmouth; Lorraine (Hector) LeBlanc, Belleville; a sister-in-law, Mary Blanchard, Smith’s Cove; several nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Melvin Blanchard. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. The family received visitors from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7 at St. Ambrose Cathedral, Albert Street, Yarmouth, immediately followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m., Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. Reception followed in the Jubilee Room at St. Ambrose Cathedral. Private interment took place in St. Anne’s Parish Cemetery, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau. Donations in Bernie’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
