Elizabeth Carolyn (Lukie Burns) Clark passed away peacefully July 11, 2012 in Westbank, BC at the age of 77. She is survived by her loving family: husband of 57 years Ken, and children Michael, Stephen, Libby, and Katie and daughters-in-law Rosanne and Carolyn, and sons-in-law Gary and John. Grandchildren are Harrison, Keenan, Alex, Julia, Emily and Maggie. She is also survived by her brother Frank and sister Sharon, many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada and the USA. She was predeceased by her parents Hugh and Bella Burns and brother Bob of Kentville, Nova Scotia. She graduated Kings County Academy in Kentville, and Fisher College in Boston. Her working career included Sunset Magazine, Stanford University, Hewlett-Packard and CBS-TV Network. She was an active community volunteer in California including Watsonville’s Hospital Pink Ladies, Women’s Club, and YWCA where she was named “Woman of the Year” for creating the first 24 hour day care centre for the children of migrant workers. The family spent five years working in Africa, both in Kano, Nigeria, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where Carolyn was named President of the American Women’s Community raising funds for Ethiopian youth. With children grown, Carolyn and Ken moved to Nova Scotia where Carolyn created and ran The Farmhouse Inn and published a popular cookbook, “The Farmhouse Inn Country Breakfasts”. The Clarks moved west to British Columbia in retirement, first settling in Peachland, then Crystal Springs, and finally to Westwood Retirement Resort. Carolyn loved quilting, finishing over 40 quilts for family and friends and was working on her last quilt for her husband, Ken, when she passed. She particularly enjoyed knitting for charity with the Westwood “Needlers”. She is widely remembered for her humour, joy and lighting up the room with her smile and sweet nature. Her family and friends will miss her forever and wish her Happy Trails as she moves on to her next adventure. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.hansonsfuneral.com. A Memorial Service was held at 11:00A.M. on Friday, July 20th at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, 4464 Brandon Lane, Peachland, BC. In lieu of flowers the family has requested remembrances be made to a charity of your choice.
