Kay Ward died peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, An Cala Unit, with her family by her side.
Born on Nov. 10, 1926, Kay was a lifelong resident of Sydney River, daughter of the late Stewart and Effie (MacLean) Howie. Since 2009, she has resided at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney River.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Gayle (Fenton) Isenor, Howie Centre and Sheila, Sydney River; son, Stewart, Mississauga. She was the proud grandma of Merrill Isenor, Burnaby, B.C. and David (Mariah Shah) Isenor, Dartmouth; adoring great-grandmother of Aminah Isenor. Kay is also survived by her brother, Thompson (the late Jean) Howie; brothers-in-law, Ron (Jackie) Brown, Garnet (Sylvia) Ward, Clifford (Eunice) Ward; sisters-in-law, Muriel and Sophie Ward.
She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Ralph in 2010 and brothers-in-law, Ted and Allan Ward.
Kay was a member of the United Protestant Church of Sydney River and a life member of the UCW. She enjoyed many years with the Riverdale Seniors, bowling, dancing and travelling. In her younger years, she was employed with Eastern Light and Power.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 23, 11 a.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Following the service, the family will gather with friends. Interment in Alfred Smith Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
If desired, memorials may be made to palliative care or a charity of your choice.
