It is with extremely heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Ellen Gilbert on Monday, July 23, 2012, in Halifax.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah ‘Sadie’ (Payne) Kelloway.
Ellen enjoyed the simple things in life, her favourites being playing cards, reading, baking and dancing. But her true love in this world was her family and she devoted her life to caring for and loving them unconditionally.
She is survived by daughters, Ellen (Rodni) Emslie, Halifax, Lyndsay, Glace Bay; sons, Thomas, Calvin (Stacy), stepson, Bradley (Kathy), all of Glace Bay; brothers, Thomas (Margie), Sydney, Barry (Edith), Ontario, John (Donna), Glace Bay; sisters, Judy (Al) Parsons, Tower Road, Kathleen Kelloway, Jacqueline Peach, Phyllis (Fred) Boutilier, all of Glace Bay; grandchildren, Dakota, Madison, Savanah, Brayden, Raine, Colby; close friends, Geraldine Sharpe, Shirley Wilton; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Ellen was predeceased by husband, Calvin Gregory Gilbert, stepdaughter, Zena, sister, Wanda LeBlanc, brother, Bill, brothers-in-law, Butch Simmons, Francis Peach.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Cremation will follow. Visitation will also be held Sunday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Finlayson officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in Ellen’s memory to the IWK children’s hospital.
