It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a loving and devoted wife and mother. Surrounded by her family, Jacalyn Ley (MacMullen) Robertson passed away peacefully Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a courageous three year battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, N.S., May 7, 1955, Jackie was the daughter of the late James R. MacMullen (2001) and the late Martha E. (MacPherson) MacMullen (2009).
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Lawrence, as well as her children, Brett and Katie, of Howie Center. Jackie also leaves behind a brother, David (Darlene) MacMullen, of Calgary, Alta. Along with many nieces, nephews and cousins, Jackie will also be leaving behind many aunts and uncles, Lillian Moquet, Bernadette MacMullen, Eileen MacPherson, Alfred (Eileen) MacMullen, all of Glace Bay, Margaret Macdonald, Donkin, Katherine Ryan, Sydney, Joan MacPherson, Toronto, and Donnie MacMullen, London, Ont.
Jackie had an iron will until the end, doing everything in her power to protect her family. A dedicated caregiver and volunteer, she worked with palliative care for more than five years. She was a member of both St. Luke’s United Church in Donkin and the Cape Breastoner’s Dragon Boat Team. Jackie’s ability to make those around her comfortable was only one of her incredible qualities. Her warm, loving personality, her sense of humour, wise advice and beautiful smile will never be forgotten.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A memorial service will be held at United Protestant Church of Sydney River on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jackie’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center (Patient Care Fund), Palliative Care An Cala Cape Breton Regional, the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society Research, Cape Breton Chapter.
