WIENS, Florence Charlotte, age 81, of Swift Current, SK passed away July 25, 2012 at the Regina General Hospital. The Private Family Funeral Service was held July 30, 2012 from Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Francis Kurisinkal officiating. The interment service took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, with family members acting as pallbearers. Florence is survived by her children Murray (Laura) Wiens, Bonnie (Neil) Martens, Jody (Monique) Wiens, Patricia Wiens and Missie Blyth; grandchildren Melanie (Jay) Ross, Bob (Kayla) Wiens, Jason (Lindsay) Wiens, Chris (Amanda) Martens, Daniel (Robin) Martens, Kylee Wiens, Cole Wiens, Tyson Wiens and Astrid and Sam Blyth; two great grandchildren; sister Doris (Art) Johnson; brother-in-law Marvin (Louise) Wiens; sister-in-law Verdyne Grant; several nieces, nephews, cousins and Sam’s uncle Jake Wiens. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam, in June 2012; her parents - John & Flora Grant; her mother & father-in-law - Isaac & Tina Wiens; brothers - Dick Grant & Lloyd Grant; numerous Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins. Mom was born January 1, 1931 on the Family Farm near McMahon. She attended school at Mosquito Creek School, McMahon, Moose Jaw and completed her high school at the Convent in Swift Current after her Dad was employed at the Land Titles Office there. Her first job was with the Health Region. She met Sam Wiens at one of the dance halls on the Southside in 1948 and they were married on Oct. 7, 1950. They both continued working in Swift Current until 1952, when they moved to Wymark and Murray was born. Mom became a full-time homemaker at that time. They had no running water in their first house there but later moved to her in-laws old house which was a little bigger and had at least cold running water. In 1954, when they opened S&F Texaco on their yard. Mom worked in the Service Station when Dad was driving school bus or farming, all the while maintaining an immaculate home & cooking the best meals Dad ever tasted. Her job was made more complicated by trying to keep Murray out of the customers' vehicles when they stopped for gas! As Bonnie, Jody, and Patty came along and Mom and Dad purchased their own farmland, Mom's list of jobs grew to truck driver during harvest and making & delivering hot and tasty meals to the field (every meal included dessert). Her home was always open to family and friends and many a delicious holiday meal was made there. She also made a lot of the kids' clothes out of adult clothes by taking the garment apart, then cutting & sewing new clothing for us which was even better than any store bought garment. She loved to knit and made everyone of us a Siwash Sweater. In later years, she made many beautiful scarves and all kinds of dishcloths & towels, which she generously gave as gifts. Mom & Dad started Square Dancing in 1961 and shortly after, Dad began square dance calling. They were kept busy with this pastime but enjoyed every minute of it and made many lifelong friends. From there the square dance friends turned into travel buddies as Mom & Dad organized many trips allover the U.S. and Canada. In 1971, Mom started working as Postmistress for the Wymark area. The Post Office was setup in their Service Station so it was handy for Mom being on the same yard. One of the luxuries Mom & Dad purchased at this time was an automatic washer to make Mom's life a little easier. Mom worked for Canada Post until 1973, at which time they moved out to the farm east of Chortitz where they had built a new house. In 1981, Missie joined them. They built a beautiful farmyard with hard work, dedication and a lot of love. Mom & Dad retired to Swift Current in late 2011. Unfortunately they didn't get to enjoy their retirement for long as Dad passed away in June of 2012. Mom spent her life thinking of others and never of herself. Her kindness, patience and generosity were her greatest attributes. She will be missed more than words can say by her family and all who were lucky enough to have known her.
