ROBERT LORNE BOWERING

ROBERT LORNE BOWERING

April 17, 1934 ~ July 24, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorne Bowering. Survived by his loving wife and best friend Jean, sons Mike (Nancy), Pete (Kris) and Graham, sister-in-law Elizabeth, brother David, extended family, and his loyal companion Teeka.
Lorne was actively involved in youth camping and outdoor education at the provincial and national level for more than 35 years and is fondly remembered by many for his leadership and development of YMCA Camps Elphinstone, Howdy and Deka.
Never one to sit still, after retirement Lorne was active with large-scale building projects on family recreational properties. He was most proud of the pier and wharf at New Brighton, built entirely by hand with nothing but hand winches, pulleys, fulcrums and ropes.
A chapel service celebrating Lorne’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday August 4, 2012 at the Gibsons United Church (724 Trueman Rd, Gibsons, BC). In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the ALS Society or to a charity of your choice.
