Helen Josephine Demchenko (nee Burr) of Moose Jaw passed away on August 1, 2012 at the age of 87 years. Helen was born in Meyronne, SK on May 10, 1925. She taught school for a few years, before meeting Ralph and they were married January 29, 1951 in Maple Creek. They moved to Central Butte and enjoyed farm life until their retirement in 1977, eventually moving to Moose Jaw. Helen was a member of the Eastern Star, the U.C.W., and taught Sunday School in Central Butte. She was an avid gardener, and especially loved African violets. Helen enjoyed camping, family vacations, and reunions. In her later years she played the electronic organ and drums. Predeceased by her husband Ralph, son Bobby, her parents Nelson and Josephine Burr, and sister Phyllis Timmons, she is survived by her children: Judy (Ric) Little – Creston, BC, Joy (Geoff) Gretsinger – Portage la Prairie, MB, John (Claude-dene) Demchenko, Saskatoon; sisters Joyce Jones, Alice Johns, and Hazel Warren; and sisters-in-law Elma Demchenko and Phyllis (Doug) North. A Celebration of Helen’s life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday August 4, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Memorialization will take place at the Central Butte Cemetery at a later date. For those so wishing, memorial donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
