It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Florence MacLean on Jan. 9, 2010, at the An Cala Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Rannie and Rosella (Bennett) MacKeigan.
Florence was a faithful member of Zion Presbyterian Church, Louisbourg.
She played ladies lob ball with the Louisbourg Eagles for many years. She enjoyed playing tarabish and going to bingo. Florence enjoyed spending time with family and friends, she was very family oriented.
Florence is survived by her children, Violet Ann MacLean, Sydney, Robert (Valerie) MacLean, Louisbourg, Roderick MacLean, Ross Jr. (Korine) MacLean, both of Ontario; her precious grandchildren, Blair, Douglas, Shayla, Patricia and Josh; great-grandchild, Damon. She is also survived by her sister, Violet; brother, Danny ‘Red’ (Shirley) MacKeigan, Louisbourg; lifelong friends, Elda and Marion, earth angel, Roberta Perry as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Florence is also survived by Lawrence’s children, Debbie and Scott, step-grandchildren, Brody and Kyle, who knew her as ‘FoFo’.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving companion, Lawrence MacDonald, sisters, Mary and Annie, brother, Gordie.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at the Zion Presbyterian Church, Louisbourg, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at the Zion Presbyterian Church, Louisbourg, with Pastor Kevin Richardson officiating. Interment to follow in Willow Grove Cemetery, Louisbourg.
