Cunningham, John Martin Law, 82, died peacefully with family by his side on Friday, July 27, 2012 in Middleton, NS. John was born in Banbridge, Northern Ireland on March 9, 1930 & he was the son of the late James & Sara (McCready) Cunningham. Johnny moved to Canada in 1952 for work & was a millwright by trade. He worked at various jobs including the “Avro Arrow” aircraft. He went to the far-frontier to work for the Iron Ore Company of Canada to help build a new town called Labrador City, where he met his new wife, Norma. Together they went to Stephenville, NL where he worked for the Liner Board Mill. After eight months he answered a call for a job in the Yukon, then on to Timmins and later Mississauga, ON. Johnny retired in 1993 and moved to Nova Scotia. His grandchildren really enjoyed and will miss the “candy rides” with Grampy Johnny. He brought the Irish blarney with him, which made for good story telling. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma (Pierce); children: Jimmy, Smith Falls, ON.; Cate (Bill) McMullen, Merrickville, ON; Bruce (Debbie), Napean, ON; Gavin (Debbi), Smith Falls, ON; step-children, Pamella (Bruce) Bullen, Halifax; Kenneth (Deborah) Barteaux, Middleton; Terri Lynn (Lee) Preziosi, Labrador City, NL; 20 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Irene (Don) Williamson, ON & brother, Bob, BC; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Donald. There will be no funeral service by family request. Cremation has taken place under the care & direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook. The family wishes to thank Dr. Saxon and Staff of “Heart of the Valley” Long Term Care Centre. Also many thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton for the excellent care. Donations in memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), Heart of The Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton, or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
