Laird, Beth (née Johanne Marie Elisabeth Hanson)
Peacefully with her family by her side, after a brief illness, in her 89th year. Beth was born in Mossbank, Saskatchewan, to Walter and Johanne Hanson, and was the younger sister of Florence. She married Gilbert A. Laird in 1943 and they lived first in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and then in Greenfield Park, Quebec, where they raised four children, Sandra Jean (Fred Murray), Walter Roy (Judith), Nancy Elizabeth, and Joyce Lorraine (Ian Scharf). Beth and Gil later moved to the Crossroads in Toronto, where Beth stayed after Gil's death in 1985. She came to live at Le Cambridge in Pointe-Claire in 2007. Besides her four children, she leaves eight grandchildren: Christopher William McDougall (Julie Kon Kam King), Patrick Jonathan Murray, Catherine Ann Laird, Cameron Scott Laird, Joseph Christopher Somers, Leah Elizabeth Somers, Grace Caitlin Scharf, and Lily Bennett Scharf. At Beth’s request, there will be no funeral. A private interment will be held later in Toronto.
