MILLER, Guido Joseph passed away peacefully at the Foyer d’Youville, Gravelbourg SK, on July 26, 2012, with family at his side. He was born March 27, 1928, in Regina, SK, to Peter and Barbara (nee Schwartz) Miller of Arbuthnot, SK. Guido received his formal education at Obthorpe and Arbuthnot schools. In his early teens Guido worked for various neighbors and farmers. Guido married Iris Hollister of the Cupar district in Regina on July 11, 1953. The first few months of marriage were spent in Regina, then in Davidson, SK, to work for National Grain and in 1956 they settled on a farm at Glen Bain, SK, were they raised their six children. Guido was a man who truly loved the earth, always trying different methods to improve his grain production. Although Guido was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2000 he continued to assist with farming until he and Iris moved to Gravelbourg in November of 2010. Guido enjoyed playing cards, bowling, old time dancing, shooting pool and family gatherings. He truly loved his children, especially his grandchildren and had a genuine interest and concern for all of them. Guido will be deeply missed by his wife Iris Mae Miller, of 59 years. Daughter Donna (Bernie) Achtemichuk, grandson Darren (Lisa), great-grandsons Tyson and Carter, grandson James, granddaughter Kim (Steve) Bownes and new born great- grandson Austin, granddaughter Terri-Ann and friend Jeremy, son Allan, son Russell, son Darrell (Ida), daughter Lois, son Norman (Joanne), granddaughter Christina, grandson Mark (Kristin), great- grandson Mason, grandson Michael and friend Lydia and grandson Brian. Also left to mourn are his sister Eleanor (Lee) Marchant of Laramie, Wyoming, USA and her family: nephew Brent (Dawn), great-nephew Justin, and great-niece Lauren, nephew Ted, nephew Mark (Tara), great-niece Kylie and fiancé Colt and great -niece Andrea and niece Leighanne and an extensive extended family, friends and neighbors. Predeceased by his parents: Peter (1952) at the age of 54, and Barbara (1983) at the age of 82, brother Werner (1974), sisters-in-law Gertie (Andy) Hammond, Tema (Frank) Bolen and brother-in law Keith (Vera) Hollister. Funeral Mass was celebrated on August 1, 2012, at Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral in Gravelbourg at 11:00 a.m., with Father Joseph Strohhofer celebrant. Cross Bearer was Christina Miller. Altar Servers Denis and Lucille Boire. Readers were Lois Miller and Darren Achtemichuk. Offertory gifts Norman and Joanne Miller. Soloist Louis Stringer accompanied by organist Leona Bourgeois. Eulogy was shared by Fred Fulton. Active Pallbearers were Darren Achtemichuk, James Achtemichuk, Terri-Ann Achtemichuk, Mark Miller, Michael Miller and Brian Miller. Interment - St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Memorial donations in Guido’s name to St. Joseph Hospital/ Foyer d’Youville Foundation and the Parkinson Society of Saskatchewan were greatly appreciated.
