Margaret Thomas
THOMAS, MARGARET “MARDIE” JOYCE - The family of Margaret “Mardie” Joyce Thomas of Yoho, NB regret to announce her passing at the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital on the 15th day of August 2012. She was born in Nashwaaksis, March 16, 1927, the daughter of the late Edward and Emma (Woodworth) McKiel. Mardie was well known for her strong competitive spirit and her organizational ability. Her fellow bridge players (friends) at the Monsignor Boyd Centre can certainly attest to that. She was blessed with an entrepreneurial drive that was evidenced early with the founding of a South Devon eatery-Joe’s Diner; subsequently followed that up with her ownership of the Second Time Around; and finally with the opening and operation of the Hanwell Bakery and Diner. She is survived by her husband Ian; a son Peter (Wendy) of Midland, ON; three daughters Pamela Monahan, Terry Fitzgerald both of Fredericton, and Susan Thomas of Yoho; grandchildren Tami MacPherson, Mathew Fitzgerald, Mackenzie and Alex Thomas, and Christopher Pratt; a sister Glenna Gardner of Woodstock; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mardie was predeceased by her parents; three brothers Lester, Merle and Bob; two sisters Elsie and Maxine; an infant daughter Katherine; and a grandson Chris (Bubba) MacPherson. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at 4NW of the DECRH for their professional, kind and thoughtful care of Mardie during her final weeks in the hospital. We also wish to express our thanks to Dr. Olmstead for his care over the past years and to Dr. Hayter for his understanding and treatment of her during her many stays in the hospital over the past year.
At her request there will be no service or visitation. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. If desired, donations in her memory to the Fredericton Public Library or the Fredericton Soup Kitchen would be appreciated. Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road have been entrusted with arrangements. www.bishopsfuneralhome.com.
