OLSON – John Anthony, May 6, 1948 – August 13, 2012. John passed away at the Herbert Integrated Health Facility where he had lived for almost two years. He is survived by his wife, Vicky Olson; stepdaughters Carolyn (Darren) Heppner (Calgary, AB), and Jennifer (Bret) Watson (Swift Current, SK); stepson Roderick (Helena) Stolz (Swift Current, SK); son Aaron Olson (Vancouver, BC); sisters Debbie Olson and Shelly Olson (Chicago, Illinois); mother-in-law Mary Macknak (Fort Qu’Appelle, SK); sisters-in-law Helen (Al) Flavel (Yorkton, SK), Veronica (the late Clifford) Helmer (Calgary, AB) and Frances (Haven) Rees (Calgary, AB); brothers-in-law Felix (Betty) Macknak (Cupar, SK) and John (Debbie) Macknak (Cupar, SK); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by father, Elmer Olson (Chicago, IL); his mother, Helene Olson (Chicago, IL); brother Tommy Olson (Chicago, IL); stillborn daughter Desiree (Kindersley, SK). John immigrated to Canada from the states in 1976. He was a chef in a restaurant in Kindersley and when he came to Swift Current, he ran the printing press for the Swift Current Sun newspaper. His co-workers there became like family to him. He had many hobbies. Restoring cars, especially Lincolns, was at the top of the list. He also loved to build model cars and left many behind as reminders of him. Collecting key chains was also his passion and he would readily ask people to bring him back a key chain if he knew they were going on a holiday. But most of all he loved telling stories and joking around with friends and co-workers. He also enjoyed talking to people about God’s promise of a paradise earth where there won’t be any pain, sorrow or death. (Rev. 21:3, 4) and of the promise of a resurrection should death over-take them now. (John 5:28, 29) In these and other scriptures, John found comfort and hope. The family would like to thank the Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre and Herbert Integrated Health Facility for their kind and loving care they gave John. He especially loved the Butter Horns, fresh baked buns and homemade soups. Thank you so much for taking such good care of him when we no longer could. The Memorial Service was held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Swift Current, with Steve Park presiding. For those wishing, donations to the Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre, Herbert Integrated Health Facility or the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society would be appreciated by the family.
