Sister Anne-Marie Jeanne Chiasson, 96, in religion, Sr. Patrice Maria, f.j., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Centre. She was in the 72nd year of her religious profession.
Born in Rogersville, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Médric Chiasson, of Margaree, N.S. and of the late Marie-Hélène Doucet of Petit-Rocher, N.B.
Besides her religious family, she is survived by one sister, Evangéline Strootman of Maryland, U.S.A.; three brothers, Antonio of Michigan, U.S.A., Albert of Edmundston, N.B. and Guy of Montreal; several nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by four sisters and five brothers.
Sister Anne-Marie spent her active life first as a teacher from 1941 to 1963 in Chéticamp then at Dalhousie, N.B., Saulnierville, N.S., and Rogersville, N.B. In 1964, she was elected as General Councillor in France, then from 1970 to 1980, she served as Superior General of the Congregation of Les Filles de Jésus. After her return to Canada, and a time of sabbatical, she worked as community Superior or Director of Senior residences in Sydney, N.S., Moncton, Nash Creek and Grande-Anse, N.B. In 1993, she retired at our Provincial House in Moncton, but continued to serve as spiritual director to sisters and lay people. In 2001, because of health problems, she had to move to the infirmary of the vice-provincial house. In 2010, she was transferred with her sisters to Monarch Hall in Riverview. On Sunday, August 12, she was admitted to the Georges-Dumont Hospital where she passed away on Wednesday, Aug.15, 2012.
Her remains will be resting at Frenette’s Funeral Home, 88 Church St., Moncton (858-1900). Visiting hours on Sunday, Aug. 19 from 6-9 p.m. with a time of prayer at 7 p.m., then transferred on Monday, Aug. 20 for 9 a.m. at the Pavillon of the Maison-mère des Religieuses Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur, 125 King St., Moncton (Godfrey Lane entrance) followed by the funeral mass in their chapel at 10 a.m. Interment in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.
