Passed peacefully away at Saint Luke’s Homes, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, on Friday, August 17, 2012, after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson’s, Jean Sparks (nee Evans), Administrative Assistant, Retired, age 85 years. Predeceased by her loving Husband of 38 years, Walter Stanley Sparks, on December 5, 1988; her Mother, Ethel Evans (nee Janes), on July 27, 1958; Father, James Bertram Evans, in 1969; Brother, Frank Broughton Evans, on March 28, 1986; and Sister, Ruby Jane Allison, on February 4, 2006. Leaving to celebrate Jean’s life are her Sister, Mavis Sturgeon, of Fredericton, New Brunswick; her Sister-in-law, Cora Evans (nee Butler), of Whitehorse, Yukon; and a large number of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews throughout Canada and in the United States of America, including in St. John’s her Nephew, Barry R. Sparkes, and his Wife, Carol, and Grand-Nephew, Neil B. Sparkes; as well as other relatives and friends. A sincere and special thank you to all Jean’s Caregivers, including most recently Dr. Julian Vaughan-Jackson, and the nurses, management, staff and volunteers at Saint Luke’s Homes, particularly Trinity Square and Inglewood, where Jean resided since August 24, 2006. At Jean’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John’s, on Sunday, August 19, 2012, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; on Monday, August 20, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Jean’s life will take place at Gower Street United Church, 99 Queen’s Road, St. John’s, on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., following which Family and Friends are invited to attend a Reception in the Church Lecture Hall. Inurnment will follow at the General Protestant Cemetery, Old Topsail Road, St. John’s. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Parkinson Society NL, Gower Street United Church, or a charity of one’s choice.
