It is with deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Carol Ann (McKinnon) Oram on Aug. 16, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Sydney Mines, Carol Ann was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and after moving to Sydney, a member of Sacred Heart Parish.
Carol Ann was a graduate of Sydney Mines High School, Algonquin College, Ottawa, and later the Cape Breton Business College, and was employed in various capacities throughout her life.
She was a beautiful person who was honoured to be chosen as Miss Shamrock when she was in her early 20s, testament to how others perceived her in her life. She was extremely intelligent and will be remembered for her caring ways, her many talents (especially singing) and her bubbly personality. She was a friend to all who knew her.
Carol Ann was the daughter of Melvin and Stella (Burchell) McKinnon who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by twin brothers, Little John and Charles Michael, also a sister, Isabel, brother-in-law, David Tobin, sister-in-law, Jeanette McKinnon, former father-in-law, Wilfred Oram and former brother-in-law, Robin Oram.
Surviving to mourn her loss are her two precious daughters, Stella Rose, Toronto, and Sara Ann (Shin) Suzuki, Toronto, who were her life, her passion and her ultimate love. She is also survived by her children’s father, Brian Oram, Sydney; their loving grandmother, Primrose Oram, North Sydney; and brothers, John, Glace Bay, Melvin, Lac La Biche, Lauchlin, Sydney; sisters, Mary C. Tobin, Sydney Mines, Bernice (Bill) MacNeil, Halifax, Iris (Art) Cosgrove, Lunenburg County, Irene (Dale) Sharkey, Barrachois, Denice (Rick) Prudhomme, Calgary ; and many nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly.
Cremation has taken place. Her family will receive visitors at Francis Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines, Monday, Aug. 20 from 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Parish, Convent Street, Sydney Mines with Fr. Thomas John officiating.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
