It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Laffin, age 71, on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012 in St. Catharines.
Formerly from Alder Point, he was the son of the late Dan Joe and Doris (Simon) Laffin.
As a young man of 17, he joined the navy, where he served five years. Following that he went to work for General Motors, where he remained until his retirement at the age of 53.
Michael is survived by daughter, Brenda Boutilier (Tommy), Big Bras d’Or and by sons, William ‘Skipper’ Pearo, Alder Point, Dale, Nanaimo, B.C., Shon, Fort Erie, Ont. and their children. Also surviving are sisters, Ann Laffin, Alder Point and Judy Penny (Jimmy), Sydney Mines; numerous nieces and nephews; special cousin, Debbie Jobes and special nephew, Dan Devoe. Surviving also are Aunt Iantha (Samantha) Jardine and uncles, Lawrence Laffin, Gerald Confiant and Cecil Simon; sisters-in-law, Rita Laffin, Stephanie Laffin and Unetha Dunn; brother-in-law, Clarence Devoe.
Besides his parents, Michael was predeceased by sisters, Eleanor (at birth), Gwen Devoe and Bernadette Bonnar and by brothers, Kevin, Josie and DeDe.
Committal has since taken place in Pleasantview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fonthill, Ont.
A memorial service will be held at St. Anne’s Church, Alder Point on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Peter MacLeod officiating.
