May Gaudet
May died peacefully at the Wedgewood Manor, formerly of Hawthorne Avenue, Summerside, on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at the age of 99 years.
Born on May 9, 1913 in Nail Pond, P.E.I., May attended Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown and graduated with a teaching degree. She taught for 5 years at Palmer Road School before moving to Summerside and raised 9 children with her husband of 66 years, Arthur J. Gaudet. Arthur passed away in 2001.
May was the last surviving child of the late Thomas and Clara (Gallant) Doucette. Predeceased by her siblings Winnifred Fraser, Arthur Doucette, Mary Burke, Agnes Peterson and Hugh Doucette.
Survived by her children, Audrey (late Gerald) Glover, Spring Valley, P.E.I.; Eileen (William) Waite, Sherbrooke, P.E.I.; Jean (late Richard) Dallimore, Summerside, P.E.I.; Joan (late Robert) Clark, Summerside, P.E.I.; David (Dianne) Gaudet, Cornwall, P.E.I.; Betty Ann (Peter) Vyvyan, London, ON; Mary (Richard) Turcotte, St. Huburt, QC; Eleanor (Thomas) Irving, Eaton, NH; Kenneth (Evelyn) Gaudet, Sherwood Park, AB; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Josephine (Gaudet) DesRoches; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
May was an avid reader with excellent penmanship and enjoyed cribbage, crossword puzzles, gardening and was an excellent cook. She volunteered at Wedgewood Manor and was a member of St. Paul's Parish and Catholic Women's League. Once her children were grown she traveled Canada, United States and Europe to visit her children and siblings, including a mountain climb in New Hampshire at the age of 90.
Funeral mass will be held Friday, at St. Paul's Church, Summerside, at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Summerside. A reception for family and friends will be held at St. Paul's Parish Centre immediately following the interment.
No visitation by personal request.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Wedgewood Manor Memorial Trust Fund or the Prince County Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
